Learn how to get the most out of OpenSynthia
Getting Started
OpenSynthia helps you turn a rough research idea into a curated set of real papers, a structured literature review, and batch-saved references.
- Enter your research topic, question, or draft text in the search box
- Optionally set a publication year range to filter results
- Click "Search" to discover relevant papers
- Browse results, filter by open access or peer-reviewed status, and select papers of interest
Generating Literature Reviews
Once you've selected papers, you can generate an AI-powered literature review:
- Select papers using the checkboxes
- Click "Generate Review" button at the bottom
- Wait for the AI to analyze and synthesize the papers
- Review, copy, or download the generated literature review
⚠️ AI-generated content should be reviewed and verified before use in academic work.

Zotero Integration
Connect your Zotero account to save papers directly to your citation manager:
- Click "Connect Zotero" in the navbar
- Enter your Zotero API credentials (Library ID and API Key)
- Select papers and click "Save to Zotero" to batch-save references
Citation Network
Explore the citation network visualization to understand relationships between papers:
- View connections between papers
- Click nodes to scroll to specific papers
- Use filters to focus on selected papers
Tips & Best Practices
- Be specific in your research query for better results
- Use year filters to focus on recent publications or specific time periods
- Filter by "Open Access" to find freely available papers
- Use the "Top 20 Cited" quick select for highly influential papers
- Export BibTeX for easy import into other citation managers
